How do you decide what size boiler I need?
A heat loss calculation for the property - construction, insulation, glazing, room by room - and then a boiler matched to it. Most boilers sold in the UK are oversized because sizing by rule of thumb is quicker, and an oversized boiler short-cycles: it fires, satisfies the demand almost immediately, shuts down, and repeats. That wastes gas and wears the components out.
Combi, system or regular - which do I want?
A combi heats water on demand with no cylinder, which saves space but limits how much hot water can run at once. A system boiler with a pressurised cylinder suits homes where two showers might run simultaneously. A regular boiler uses a cylinder and a feed tank and is common in older properties. It follows how the house is used, not which is newest.
How long does an installation take?
A straight swap in the same position is usually a day. Moving the boiler, changing system type, or replacing a cylinder takes longer, and a first-time installation with new pipework and a new flue route longer still. We will give you the realistic figure at survey rather than the optimistic one.
Will you flush the system?
The system is cleaned and a filter fitted as part of the installation. Putting a new boiler onto a system full of debris is how heat exchangers block, and most manufacturers require it for the warranty to stand.
What warranty do I get?
It depends on the manufacturer, the model and in some cases the installer accreditation, so we confirm the actual figure for the boiler you choose rather than quoting a headline number that may not apply to it.
Do you take the old boiler away?
Yes, along with the packaging and any pipework we have removed. The site is left clean.
Is the installation notified?
Yes. Gas work is notified through Gas Safe, and you receive the Building Regulations compliance certificate for the installation.
Can I supply my own boiler?
Talk to us before you buy. The appliance is only part of it - flue route, gas supply capacity, existing pipework and controls all decide whether a particular unit is suitable, and a boiler that cannot be flued compliantly is not a bargain.
