Common questions
Are your engineers Gas Safe registered?
Every engineer doing gas work is on the register, and you are entitled to ask to see the card. It names the individual and lists exactly which categories of gas work they are qualified for - and those differ between engineers, which is why looking at it is worth the ten seconds.
When was Universal Gas founded, and how long have you been trading?
Universal Gas was founded in 2019, although the people in it had been working in the industry for many years before that through family connections. The work spans domestic and commercial heating, air conditioning and renewables.
Are you insured?
Yes, and you are welcome to ask for the certificate before booking. It is a reasonable question, and any contractor reluctant to answer it is telling you something.
What areas do you cover?
We work across the UK. Hertfordshire, Bedfordshire and the surrounding counties are closest to our base so we are there regularly; everywhere else is planned work rather than same-day. The standards and the certification are the same wherever the job is.
Do you use subcontractors?
Gas work is done by our own engineers, because the certificate at the end is a personal declaration by the person who did the work rather than a company stamp.
How do I get a copy of a certificate you issued?
Call or email the office with the address and roughly when the work was done. Records are stored digitally, so it takes minutes rather than a search through paperwork.
